As we near the end of the semester, Lake Forest College Student Government Secretary Anna Christiansen ’23 spoke with Stentor staff to provide updates on Student Government elections and accomplishments.

Christiansen, who noted that she is the current acting president of Student Government and will serve in that role “for the next two weeks,” shared that voting for the Executive Board positions will begin today, Friday, April 30 at noon and end tomorrow, Saturday, May 1 at noon.

She further noted that Student Government’s focus is on preparing for the new Executive Board and assisting with the transition.

Christiansen shared that during the most recent Senate meeting, Student Government “talked about COVID on campus and the move back to Phase 2.” Senators were “reminded to maintain their Forester Commitment and encourage other students to do the same,” according to Christiansen. Additionally, senators discussed having “accountability for Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) support,” and were encouraged to read minutes from the College Life Committee’s conversation with AAPI cultural club student leaders. Senators were also encouraged to attend the event on Asian and Asian-American Faculty Experiences that was held Wednesday, April 28, and the event on Police Reform that was held on Thursday, April 29. Senators were also encouraged to reach out to the student leaders of United Asia, the South Asian Student Association (SASA), the Chinese Cultural Club, and the Japanese Cultural Club, according to Christiansen.

Finally, Christiansen shared that one of the Residential Senators for the Class of 2023, Julian Cano ’23 is working on reforming the College’s hiring practices to keep diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind. She noted that Senator Cano is reaching out to the Academic Resources and Review Committee about the College’s hiring practices.
