This year, the Stentor staff was very lucky to have 4 amazing seniors that contributed to every issue. For their last issue on staff, Julia McGrath, Ean Goldstein, Paityn Tabor, and Adam Hartzer shared some of their insights and memories from their time at the Stentor

Julia McGrath ’23 – Staff Writer

Julia McGrath joined the Stentor last spring as a junior after being inspired to join while taking a creative writing course at the College. McGrath says that her favorite article that she’s written was an article she titled “Thoughts on Percy Jackson from a First-Time Reader.” When asked about this article, she said “I started reading the Percy Jackson series and immediately fell in love with Camp Half Blood. I had so many thoughts and ideas bouncing around in my head that I just had to get them down on paper. I’m grateful the Stentor gave me a space to ramble about my latest obsession.” After graduation, McGrath plans to be a camp counselor for her local park district while working on figuring out her long-term path. When asked what she will miss most about the Stentor and Lake Forest, she said, “I will miss reading and watching new things that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. This semester I’ve been busy with fieldwork, so I don’t have a lot of downtime; but thanks to the Stentor I’ve made time to take care of myself by watching some good movies and TV shows.”

Ean Goldstein ’23 – Staff Writer

Ean Goldstein joined the Stentor staff in September 2020 as a way to keep in touch with LFC athletics remotely during COVID-19. After graduation, Goldstein has “nothing set in stone yet, but is looking for communications or social media jobs in sports.” Goldstein also shared that his favorite part of being a part of the Stentor staff was “getting to hear from all sorts of different LFC athletes and learn about their perspectives and stories.”

Paityn Tabor ’23 – Co-Editor-in-Chief

Paityn Tabor also joined the Stentor staff in 2020 because of her love for writing and her Intro to Journalism class. Tabor’s favorite article that she wrote during her time on staff was titled “Defining Moments.” “I wrote about senior athletes who were graduating and how being a student-athlete here at the College impacted them,” she said. “This story was published last April, and while it was a really fun story to write, it also carried with it a weight and sense of nostalgia about moving from one chapter to another.” Tabor describes herself as “a storyteller at heart” and says she will miss getting to write about topics she is passionate about the most. She also shared that “the Stentor has given me a voice throughout my time here at the College to share those stories and I am beyond grateful for that.” Throughout her time at the Stentor, Tabor says that “she has learned how to be confident in my writing capabilities and tell stories in a way that is both informative and fun.” Tabor has held many roles on the Stentor staff, including Sports Editor, Managing Editor, and Editor-in-Chief. On this topic, she shared that “I loved each of these positions, but specifically from being Editor-In-Chief, I enjoyed getting to be right in the mix of everything that is happening within the paper.” After graduating, Tabor’s goal is to become a sports reporter.

Adam Hartzer ’23 – Co-Editor-in-Chief

Adam Hartzer joined the Stentor staff his first year at the College after previously working for his high school’s newspaper. Adam’s favorite part of his time on staff was his collaboration with so many people. He specifically shouts-out “former Editors Sangjun Hornewer ’20 and Emma Overton ’21, current co-Editor Paityn Tabor ’23, Stentor advisor, Linda Blaser, and the various staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community members.” Being Editor-in-Chief with Tabor, Hartzer enjoyed seeing the different issues come to fruition. Hartzer also shared that along with collaboration, he learned the value of sharing stories. “It was so insightful to be able to talk to so many different people and share their perspective,” he said. “It is definitely a skill I will continue using throughout the rest of my life.” After graduation, Hartzer shared that he plans to work in the hospitality and tourism industry. “I worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida,” he said. “I would love to go back to the area and eventually get a Master’s Degree in the field.”
