Additional Extracurricular Involvement: Writing Center Tutor

What’s one thing you want people to know about you?

“I’m organized—I have a running ‘to do’ list on my phone or computer and am setting reminders or creating calendars to always keep me up-to-date and on time!”

What motivated you to contribute as the Layout Editor?

“As I gained experience working on layout, I began to explore new designs and different formats for design. I began to enjoy taking articles and stories that have similar topics and laying them out in a format that makes the reader go from one story to another, seamlessly. From there, after I compile the stories and format them, I send the entire document to the printer, where it is published in the format one sees on a printed newspaper!”

Meet Paityn Tabor ’23, Managing Editor and Sports Editor

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Area of Study: Self-Designed Major in Journalism and also double-majoring in Spanish with a minor in Cinema Studies

Additional Extracurricular Involvement: Member of the Lake Forest College women’s soccer team

What drove you to get into journalism?

“I grew up in a football family and have been around sports my whole life, so I have always had a passion for sports. I have also always loved to write. My passion for writing is what drew me to journalism in the first place, but my interest in sports is what sparked my interest in sports journalism. Getting to write about sports is the perfect way for me to combine both of my passions.”

What are your plans after graduation?

“After graduation, I would love to get a job as a reporter for a professional or collegiate sports team. My ultimate goal is to become a sideline reporter for the NFL.”

Meet Lia Fiffles ’24, Opinions Editor

Hometown: Homer Glen, Illinois

Area of Study: Major in English (undecided on what track) and a possible double minor in Print and Digital Publishing and Journalism

Additional Extracurricular Involvement: Hellenic Student Association (HSA)

What drove you to get into journalism?

“I’ve always been an avid reader, but toward the end of high school I got more into writing. Halfway through my first semester as a first-year student here at Lake Forest, I decided to look into joining more student organizations and took immediate interest in writing for The Stentor.”

What’s one thing you want people to know about you?

“One thing that I would like people to know about me is that I would love to spend a semester studying abroad in England!”

Meet Sergio Bardesi-Texocotitla ’22, A&E Editor and Chive Editor

Hometown: Palatine, Illinois

Area of Study: Major in Religion and minor in Sociology and Anthropology

What are your plans after graduation?

“I want to find work as a journalist in a different state. I am considering a few Southwestern red states because of their lower cost of living, Hispanic populations, and national parks.”

Have you had any internships, and how have they affected your academic career?

“I had an internship with the Communication Department at the Council on American-Islam Relations. I wrote two articles about the Muslim community in Chicago, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It solidified my decision to take journalism and Spanish classes, to pursue a career in journalism.”
