Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Stentor has conducted a number of interviews and research to provide you with updates on the College’s budget plan and the upcoming calendar committee, as well as introduce the most-recent President of the Student Government, below.

Through communication with Associate Professor of Communication and Chair of the Curricular Policy Committee (CPC), Linda Horwitz, we have gained insight into our College’s upcoming calendar committee and future alterations of the academic calendar. As reported by Horwitz, the CPC was searching for ways to change the traditional calendar, in order to prevent teaching on Labor Day and MLK Jr. Day. Additionally, Horwitz acknowledged the shortened 2021-2022 winter break, which was problematic for a number of Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff. “[The CPC] quickly learned that this is a very complicated issue that impacts every department and individual on campus, so [they] decided that as [they] are not scheduled to teach on MLK Jr. Day for the next two years, and as the winter break is back to its typical length, the best thing to do is to bring together a group of students, faculty, and staff to spend the time needed to really dive into this issue,” Horwitz says. Next year, the group of students, faculty, and staff will spend time working on the issue, and will later present their findings to the CPC.

The Calendar Committee was greenlighted by the College Council during their Zoom meeting on April 11, 2022. Chair and President of the College Stephen Schutt and Secretary and Assistant Professor of Finance Dimitra Papadovasilaki of the Council are a small part of the group that attended, which was made up of faculty and students. During the meeting, the Council continued discussions regarding the College’s budget deficit. Should there be any updates, they will be promptly reported.

Finally, we would like to congratulate Gabriel Blindauer ’24 on his recent position as President of the Student Government! Blindauer has given an overview of his future plans as President of Student Government for the Stentor. Recently, he has been leading an on-campus furniture revitalization program “that would replace and/or refurbish furniture within the lower level of Mohr Student Center and the library.” In the future, with the vision of leading Student Government into a year of high productivity, Blindauer will be focusing on providing free/subsidized laundry services, and on working with the Student Programming Board to organize a Curriculum Fair.

At last, Blindauer encourages all students who feel passionate about issues affecting them to consider joining Student Government.
