Coming off of a second-place finish in their inaugural season in the MLC, the Foresters men’s lacrosse team was bound to be ambitious in 2023. With an undeniable majority of last season’s roster being first-year students, there would not be too many losses to the team’s core heading into 2023. Despite their success in 2022, there would be 12 first-year students recruited for the following season. With an extremely deep roster, it appears that the team’s high standard for performance established in 2022 will be carried into 2023.

The team started this year off with an initial 5-0 record and a point difference of 76 scored to 18 allowed. This was a record that set the program to have one of the most impressive records across the nation. The team achieved notable wins over Carroll and Concordia Chicago, with scores of 19-2 and 19-5 respectively, and also won every game in February. However, midway through March the team hit a rough patch, losing three games on the bounce. Although it could be disappointing to come away with losses, every team the Foresters have lost to so far boasts impressive records amongst themselves.

In 2022, the Foresters finished with an 8-7 record overall, but currently the Foresters sit at 5-3 before even reaching conference play, suggesting that it is very possible to see improvement to their season win total. Finishing MLC play in second place and losing to Dubuque 10-11 in the conference tournament final last year, the team had a great opportunity to learn and develop as players. Due to this, a regular season MLC championship, MLC conference tournament championship, and a first appearance in the NCAA national tournament in the program’s second season is possible and would be incredible for the College.

As the team prepares to wrap up their spring break trip to Florida and get into conference play, here is to hoping the Foresters continue to establish themselves as one of the best men’s lacrosse programs in the Midwest.
