With the 2022-23 conference tournament now out of reach with a 72-59 home loss to Ripon, it is time to reflect on what the team achieved this season and what Forester fans can look for next year.

In head coach Ryan Davis’ second season at the helm, the Foresters are currently 10-14 with one final game against Grinnell remaining. With a win, the team’s record would be one win better than that of last season, but there were glimmers this year that suggested the team could mount a challenge to compete in the Midwest Conference Tournament. The men’s team would go all the way to the second-to-last game of the season until it would be impossible for them to qualify due to Ripon meeting the wins needed to clinch the last tournament spot.

Key players Frank Siegien ’23 and Johnny Roeser ’23 have been big parts of the program since their freshmen debuts but being in their senior year, there will be a lot of questions about who can fill their shoes going forward. Freshman forward Noah Deitch ’26 made an impressive 13 starts in his first year and played in all 24 games so far, putting up impressive numbers. Moving up a class are duo Elijah Bull ’25 and Alex Knight ’25. Knight had the second-best team 3-point shooting percentage, sitting at 38.2, and played the second most minutes on the team. Bull, who sat at first for minutes played, was more known for his ability to drive at the rim and create opportunities for his teammates or draw a foul. Bull comparatively had the best free-throw percentage on the team as well, sitting at 76%.

With a large roster and several more players getting valuable experience, there is a very good chance this team can get into the MWC tournament next season. We’re very proud of the growth this team has shown and here is to seeing what they can do next year. Go Foresters!
