Men’s hockey player Connor Duncan ’20 is from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and is majoring in finance. Stentor staff interviewed Duncan about his plans for life after college and the amazing season that the men’s hockey team has had so far.

Stentor: How long have you served as captain of the men’s hockey team here at Lake Forest College?

Duncan: Both last year and this year I have been one of three captains. It has been a pretty exciting time. It’s always really nice to see the new people come in and to try and make them feel welcome and get everyone to try and mesh together.

Stentor: How long have you had an interest in hockey?

Duncan: I’ve been playing hockey since I was probably three or four, so a long time. In high school, I didn’t really know the whole track or how to follow it in order to play college hockey. I saw some friends of mine that were older go through it. I went to play junior hockey after high school for three years, playing one year in Raleigh, North Carolina and two years in Drumheller, Alberta. I visited a couple of schools here and there and I ended up loving it here. It’s been a good fit so far.

Stentor: How has the season been so far?

Duncan: It has been eleven wins in a row now. As of last week’s rankings, we are 7th in the country. New weekly ratings will come out later today (January 27th) so we’ll see what happens.

Stentor: What is your favorite part of playing for the Lake Forest College men’s hockey team?

Duncan: We really have a special group of guys, especially this year. We really click together and it is very much all for one and one for all. We all push for each other and keep each other accountable, it’s just a special group of people and I’m truly honored to be a part of it.

Stentor: Have you participated in any internships and what are your plans for after college?

Duncan: I interned at a small investment bank in Lake Forest called Latek Capital Corporation after completing my sophomore year. This past summer I worked for Merrill Lynch; I was a seasonal client associate at the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan branch. I think I have a pretty good job lined up at a startup ETF (exchange-traded fund) here in Rosemont, Illinois. It’s called TrueMark Investments, I recently got in touch with them again and things are looking good.
