After a long, long time, lacrosse at Lake Forest College is finally recognized as NCAA D3 teams for both women and men. As lacrosse continues to grow in popularity across the United States, we have seen both teams here on campus go from club teams to fully-fledged members of the athletic program.

With the recent construction of Mohr Field and renovation of Halas Hall, our lacrosse teams are springing onto the scene in a fashion that should match their abilities: sleek, sharp, and ready to go. Being a spring sport, each team had to arrive in the fall, but instantly got to work despite the Mohr and Farwell turf fields typically being fully used, and were able to set a tone that would be carried over into the spring. After a pretty typical but also completely random Illinois winter, the lacrosse programs are finally outdoors and in full swing after practicing indoors during the cold spell.

Men’s lacrosse games started about a week earlier than the women’s, and they sure started off with a bang, blowing out Beloit 19-0, with a Lake Forest player earning both offensive and defensive player of the week awards for the conference. That is surely a way to make an introduction. Currently, the men’s team has a 2-2 record, but is looking to carry some momentum over from a close but hard-fought 11-10 win against Hanover while away from home.

Women’s lacrosse is setting their opponents ablaze as well, going 3-1 as of March 17, scoring 67 points and letting in only 29 points. Games against Brevard and Warren Wilson saw the women’s program score 20 or more in both games. But with a recent 12-8 loss to Madonna, we’re hoping the team can get back to winning ways against Concordia Chicago.

Looking at these early score lines and accolades should excite Forester Fanatics and regular fans alike, because frankly, who wouldn’t want to support two already exciting teams? With games going all the way until the end of the semester, students have the opportunity to look over each team’s schedules and show up to support the teams, especially if the weather continues to warm up nicely.

Good luck to both the men’s and women’s teams and go Foresters!
