How have your internships affected your academic career?

“I have had internships with State Representative Bob Morgan at his Highwood District Office and with Roberti Community House in Waukegan. I am currently interning remotely with the Order of Protection Division of Ascend Justice, a nonprofit domestic violence legal clinic based in Chicago. I have learned a great deal from each of my internships, including valuable interpersonal, collaboration, and time management skills that have all positively impacted my academic career. Moreover, my internships have provided me with incredible experiential learning opportunities that have enhanced my experience at Lake Forest College.”

Hometown: Lake Villa, Illinois

Areas of Study: Major in Business and Self-Designed Major in Creative Media Design

Additional Extracurricular Involvement: Writing Center Tutor

What motivated you to contribute as the Layout Editor?

“As I gained experience working on layout, I began to explore new designs and different formats for design. I began to enjoy taking articles and stories that have similar topics and laying them out in a format that makes the reader go from one story to another, seamlessly. From there, after I compile the stories and format them, I send the entire document to the printer, where it is published in the format one sees on a printed newspaper!”

What drove me to get into journalism?

“Journalism has been the most important aspect of my college career. Not something that originally interested me in high school, diving into writing in college sparked my passion for journalistic writing. I love being able to bring news and events to life in written form. It is more important than ever that we, as students, take the initiative to properly understand and evaluate the news and information that we take in every day. I am honored to be a part of an amazing community reporting on issues that directly affect us as students.”

After that, I want to work in some aspect of book publishing, hopefully on the social media and publicity side to start, while living in the Greater London area.”
