This semester, the Lake Forest College Art Department has a big and bold new project for art majors. The Art Department is inviting the rest of the student body to get involved.
This hands-on project, entitled “From Street to Forest,” intends to help students to grow as artists and reach their creative potential. The project consists of tagging and spray-painting buildings both on campus and in the town of Lake Forest.
All students are encouraged to partake in this event. The faculty at Lake Forest College enthusiastically supports the event. Many faculty and students view the project as an opportunity for all students to grow creatively and let the world see what they have to offer.
If the event is a success, the Arts Department hopes to add graffiti and tagging as a new addition to the liberal arts curriculum. The project and subsequent course allows students to experience a piece of Chicago culture without ever leaving campus. Chicago can be dangerous. A field trip into the city can also be a hassle. It is exhausting to travel into the city, find one’s way around without getting lost, and then travel back.
As a result of this project, the new and improved buildings will bring urban culture to the isolated suburb of Lake Forest. The project will take place on the second or third week of April. Students are encouraged to take part in the project at night, in order to get the experience of creative rebellion through doing something illegal under the cloak of night.
Students can sign up for the project at the Art Department in Duran Art Institute, located on North Campus. There are no prerequisite courses for taking part in the project. You just need spray paint, dark clothes, and a creative mind. The bookstore has art supplies for purchase.
If you think you are a straight- arrow student with an inner hood- rat just waiting to bust out of your skin, this is your chance to let your freak flag fly. Join all of Lake Forest’s finest creative minds and improve the aesthetics of campus with your artistic angst.
