The Lake Forest Women’s Hockey team has been on a tear as of late, winning five of their last six games. A big reason for that recent success has been the play of forward Marissa Gebauer, who has compiled four goals and four assists in those six games. This season as a whole, Gebauer is leading the Foresters in goals (9) and points (13), as well as being tied for second in assists (4). This play has earned her NCHA Offensive Player of the Week Honors. Stentor staff recently talked to Gebauer about the success of both herself and the team.
Stentor: Where are you from?
Gebauer: I’m from Mission Viejo, California.
Stentor: What’s your major?
Gebauer: I am a business major with a concentration in accounting.
Stentor: How long have you been playing hockey?
Gebauer: I have been playing hockey since I was 7 years old.
Stentor: What is your favorite part about playing for the hockey team?
Gebauer: My favorite part about playing for the hockey team is the team environment and getting to play the sport I love alongside supportive teammates and good friends.
Stentor: What was it like to be named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week?
Gebauer: It was an honor to be named NCHA offensive player of the week, but I wouldn’t have been able to earn it without the help of my team.
Stentor: What has been the key to your team’s recent success?
Gebauer: Utilizing our speed and running successful forechecks has been the key for our team’s recent success.
Stentor: Do you have a pregame ritual or meal?
Gebauer: I tape my hockey stick before every game.
Stentor: Besides hockey, what is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Gebauer: My favorite thing to do in my free time is spend time with my family and friends as well as travel and see new places.
Stentor: How does it feel to score a goal?
Gebauer: It’s an amazing feeling, but it’s an even better feeling to set someone up for a big goal!
