The Lake Forest softball season is in full swing, and the Foresters have gotten off to a good start, with a record of 14-10 (6-0) through April 14. They have been led by OF Josie Klein ’22, who recently appeared on the NFCA DIII National Player and Pitcher of the Year Awards list. In addition to being in the midst of a 16-game hitting streak as of April 14, Klein leads the Foresters in batting average (.453), home runs (6), and RBIs (22). Stentor staff talked to Klein about the recent success of both herself and the team.
Stentor: Where are you from?
Klein: I am from Burlington, Wisconsin.
Stentor: What’s your major?
Klein: I am double majoring in economics and psychology.
Stentor: What are your plans for after graduation?
Klein: Right now I do not have solid plans after graduation but I do plan on getting a job in either the economics or psychology realm.
Stentor: How long have you been playing softball?
Klein: I have been playing softball since I was little, about 5 years old.
Stentor: What is your favorite part about playing for the softball team?
Klein: My favorite part about playing softball is getting to play the sport I love every day with people that share the same passion I have for it; it’s the part of the day I most look forward to.
Stentor: What has been the key to your team’s success this season?
Klein: I think the key to the team’s success this season has been the energy we go into the game with. Our best games have been the ones where everyone is having fun, cheering on teammates, and just being full of energy on the field and in the dugout.
Stentor: What has been your favorite memory as part of the softball team?
Klein: My favorite memories as a part of the softball team are those where we were having fun outside of softball. In the past, we have put together teams for powder-puff and dodgeball tournaments that different organizations in the school host.
Stentor: How does it feel to be on a 16-game hitting streak? Do you feel any extra pressure in your at-bats?
Klein: It feels really good to be doing so well lately especially since it is my last season. I want this one to be the best one yet! I think I do feel an added pressure to continue to do well, however I try not to think about my past performance and focus on the present at-bat in order to relieve some of that pressure.
Stentor: What goes through your mind after a big home run?
Klein: After a home run, I don’t really know what is going through my mind. Of course I am excited and happy that it happened, but I quickly switch my focus to the next part of the game such as cheering for my teammates in the dugout or playing defense.
