The Lake Forest women’s lacrosse program has gotten off to a great start in its first season. The Foresters have won three of their first four games. A big part of their success has been thanks to Emma Tryder ’23, who was recently named the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) Offensive Player of the Week, scoring six goals and one assist the week of March 7-13. Overall, Tryder has compiled 10 goals and one assist in four games this season. Stentor staff recently talked to Tryder about her success and the success of the team in only their first season.
Stentor: Where are you from?
Tryder: I am from Plymouth, New Hampshire.
Stentor: What’s your major?
Tryder: I am majoring in neuroscience and psychology.
Stentor: How long have you been playing lacrosse?
Tryder: I’ve been playing lacrosse for 13 years.
Stentor: What is your favorite part about playing for the Forester lacrosse team?
Tryder: When the hard work from practice shows up in a game. I love the support and relationships that I have made with teammates and coaches.
Stentor: What has been the key to the lacrosse team’s early success?
Tryder: We have practiced hard so far. We strive to practice how we play and come to everything focused and ready to play.
Stentor: What was your reaction when you found out Lake Forest would sponsor a lacrosse team for the 2022 season?
Tryder: I was so excited! I was going to be on the club team my first two years, but it got canceled because of COVID-19. I am so happy to have sports back in my life. They have always been a big part of it.
Stentor: How did it feel to be named the MWLC Offensive Player of the Week?
Tryder: I definitely was not expecting to get the player of the week! I was very excited! I am just grateful to my team for working so hard. We push each other and I’m really excited to see what the rest of the season will bring!
Stentor: What is it like to be on a team in the first year of its existence?
Tryder: It’s unlike any other team experience I have had! Our team has amazing chemistry, and we are the ones creating traditions. I am excited to help make a name and set the bar for our team for future seasons to come!
Stentor: What is one thing you and your team are looking to improve on in the rest of the season?
Tryder: We are always looking to improve on everything! Some of the things we work on daily are wall ball, stick skills, shooting, and conditioning, specifically getting stronger in the gym. We have noticed great results in all categories so far but I’m excited to see where we will end up!
