Going into their series against the nation’s #3 Division III team, Adrian, the Lake Forest men’s hockey team would need to be at their best. Adrian boasts the highest goal total in the NCHA, so the Foresters knew they’d have to be efficient offensively to keep up. Nobody took that to heart more than senior forward David Cohen. Cohen tallied two assists in a 4-4 tie on January 20, then netted two goals in the Foresters’ 5-3 victory at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse the next day. Cohen’s four points against Adrian puts him at a team-leading 20 points for the season and earned him NCHA Offensive Player of the Week Honors. Stentor staff talked to Cohen about the recent success both he and the team have enjoyed.
Where are you from?
Boca Raton, Florida.
What’s your major?
Biology, on the pre-med track.
How long have you been playing hockey?
I’d say about 16 years now.
What is your favorite part about being on the hockey team?
The camaraderie for sure, being around the boys constantly makes it enjoyable.
Was your and your team’s mindset different than usual going up against Adrian?
Not really, we knew what we were capable of doing and it was nice to see it come to fruition.
What was it like to score two goals and have two assists against Adrian?
It was a good feeling knowing that I was able to contribute to the team’s success but at the end of the day, right place, right time.
What has been the key to your team’s success this season?
I think a big component is how deep our team is. We have so many guys who can play different roles, so it’s a next man up mentality.
What is one thing you and your team want to improve on in the rest of the season?
Taking less penalties.
How will your team move forward for the rest of the season after such a big win?
I think we will just continue to push forward and use this past weekend as motivation, knowing what we are capable of doing.
