As the Lake Forest College softball team has reached 21 matches played for their season, now is a good time to analyze how they have performed and progressed so far. The softball team currently sits at a 14-11 record and have 10 games remaining, with potentially more to come if they make it to the postseason.

The Foresters currently sit in second across the Midwest Conference for pitching and batting, with an earned run average of 2.67 and a batting average of .311. It should be noted that Grinnell is the only team above them in terms of those statistics. In terms of fielding, the Foresters still do relatively well, sitting in fifth for total catches and fourth for assists, with 642 catches and 179 assists. Overall, in the MWC standings, the Foresters sit in fourth place with a 2-2 record.

In terms of individual awards, in the third week of the season sophomore Kaylee Purgatorio won the Midwest Conference’s Softball Positional Performer of The Week. Congratulations again to Kaylee for her hard work and for making the program and school proud.

For the remainder of their schedule, the Foresters take on first and second place Cornell and Grinnell. After that, the Foresters still have to play Ripon, Beloit, Lawrence, and Monmouth before a potential matchup with any of their previous opponents in the MWC tournament. Again, the Foresters are 2-2 at the moment, but Lake Forest won the regular season last year so there is no reason to write them out of any competition.

Overall, the softball program has had a solid start to the season and are comfortably over a .500 record, and it remains entirely possible the Foresters are lifting some kind of silverware before the school year ends. Good luck to the softball team for the remainder of their season and go Foresters!
