In a recent survey conducted by Residential Life to assess student satisfaction with dorm living, Lois, Gregory, Roberts, and McClure tied as the top dorms on campus.
Freshman Loe Lover, who lived in Lois this academic year, voted it the best dorm due to its lack of air conditioning and airflow throughout the building.
“It’s so nice when you walk in during the summer and feel like you stepped into an oven and are being roasted alive,” Lover said. “The sweat from head to toe does wonders for my skin.”
Rob Freeman looked forward to receiving a single as a senior and was blessed with a stairwell single in Robert’s. He was elated with his experience.
“Having a room that’s the size of a jail cell truly lets me appreciate the nuances of freedom,” Freeman said.
Sophomore Penny Flushmore voted for Gregory because of the bathroom setup.
“Sharing a bathroom with four people is a dream come true. I love when people leave their hair all over the sink- like, yes, dream decor,” Flushmore exclaimed. “I especially love when people take 3 hours getting ready in the bathroom, and I’m late for class.”
Many dorms on campus lack kitchens, which sets McClure apart in students’ eyes.
“When people pile up their dishes, leave rotten food in the sink, and never clean up after themselves, it brings tears to my eyes because of the stench and my overwhelming happiness,” said junior Mr. Clean.
For many students, their dorm living experience was enhanced by some unexpected roommates.
“Those giant centipedes really add to the ambiance,” said senior Ento Mophohia. “College can be lonely but you’re never alone when you have the bugs.”
Echo Chamberlain, a veteran of all four dorms, has come to appreciate the unique acoustics of campus living.
“The paper-thin walls help me feel a part of a community. Like, I know ALL my neighbor’s drama with their boyfriends and can hear every aspect of their relationship,” Chamberlain said. “We’re one big family.”
Para Norman specifically voted for Lois due to her paranormal experiences in the basement.
“I’ve always wanted a supernatural experience and this [Lois] was definitely the place to have it. The ghosts are pretty chill,” Norman said.
Resident Director Bonnet Socheerman was pleased with the survey and the result of the best dorm poll.
“We’re so happy to revive this feedback from students, and we plan to keep it up with more bugs, thinner walls, smaller rooms, and even more shared bathrooms. We hear you!” Socheerman said.
