Happy New Year, happy second semester, and happy new beginnings for new and returning Foresters! To start off the new year, I was hoping to inform you all that since 2023 is here, I am here to announce the movies and the most anticipated TV shows that some of you have been waiting for since last year, or possibly since childhood. It was a tough call to decide which movies and TV shows had the most anticipation this year, but this is what I thought you all should be keeping an eye out for and to check out what is coming out throughout the year for all you movie lovers, Marvel lovers, and TV bingers. Enjoy!

“The Barbie Movie” – July 2023

Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the feminist director of “Lady Bird” and “Little Women,” Greta Gerwig, is set out to create a live-action movie that is all about the famous doll and her boyfriend living out the dream beyond the dreamhouse in Malibu while driving her plastic convertible. For over sixty years, many women and young girls have been excited to see what more Barbie has to offer. I myself have been a fan of Barbie, buying the dolls, dressing them up, and watching the movies, but I would say that this is the movie many people of all genders are excited for the most.

“Oppenheimer” – July 2023

Also on track to release in July is legendary director Christopher Nolan’s movie “Oppenheimer.” This movie retells the story of the famous theoretical physicist Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer and his involvement in inventing the atomic bomb during WWII. With Nolan already being ambitious with his filming style, the movie will star some of the hottest stars in Hollywood right now such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and Matt Damon. However, only time will tell if this movie will be a success at the box office, considering that “Barbie” will appear on the big screen the same weekend.

“The Super Mario Brothers Movie” – April 2023

Nintendo has heard its fans and they are finally delivering an animated “Super Mario Brothers” movie this upcoming spring. “Super Mario Brothers” has been a pop culture favorite for 42 years and the love that gamers have for Mario and the Mario franchise is still going strong, and what better way to really give the franchise appreciation to its fans than make a movie with spot-on animation, similar to the video games? With an all-star cast and excellent animation, we’re hoping that this movie will be entertaining and something that will satisfy the fans.

“The Little Mermaid” – May 2023

It has been four long years since Disney announced their casting of the live-action remake of Disney’s 1989 classic “The Little Mermaid,” but this year is the year when they are finally releasing the final product. There have been a lot of controversies and complaints about how Ariel will be played by a Black actress/singer, Halle Bailey, despite the fact that another famous Black actress/singer, Brandy, played Cinderella in the 1997 version of “Cinderella” with Whitney Houston. Despite what people have to say on the internet, many young girls across the globe are ready to see a princess that represents more fans on the big screen this Memorial Day.

“Loki” Season 2 – mid-2023

Shifting away from movies, phase 5 of Marvel’s productions is on the move with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” premiering on February 17 to kick off the new phase. “Loki” was one of the more admirable shows that Marvel released on Disney+ that starred the charismatic villain and brother of Thor, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). There is no official date of when the second season will premiere, but the entire cast from season 1 is planning to return this season with Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, and Jonathon Majors.

“The Mandalorian” Season 3 – March 2023

An unexpected third season of “The Mandalorian” is coming soon on March 1 to Disney+ and I must say, I am super thrilled. Many people across the globe, Star Wars fans and non-Star Wars fans, instantly fell in love with the duo of the bounty hunter, The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and the adorable Baby Yoda (AKA Grogu) back in 2019. Many fans thought the show would be over with Grogu’s descent with Luke Skywalker at the end of the season a year and a half ago, but I’m glad that there will be more content and more Star Wars action again, personally.
