The leaves are beginning to change color, pumpkin spice has experienced its seasonal revival, and the thought of returning home for Thanksgiving Break has just begun to increase in appeal: these are some of the major signs of fall that are apparent on the Lake Forest College campus.

But these factors are also symbolic of another approaching event: Halloween. It seems that Halloween is an almost perfectly-placed reprieve from the usually frantic academic calendar, giving students an opportunity to celebrate the completion of midterms and serving as a time of relaxation before finals. This year, students can enjoy several on- and off-campus events for the upcoming Halloween weekend.

Halloween ACP: Students wanting to show off both their costumes and their dance skills need to look no further than this year’s Halloween All Campus Program Party.

According to Associate Director of the Gates Center, Patrick Doggett, Halloween is generally one of the most anticipated ACPs for the College, with an average attendance of 300 to 400 students. Though the Halloween ACP has been hosted by several different organizations throughout its history, this year’s ACP will be hosted by SPARK.

In addition to booking a DJ for the event, SPARK will be working with Aramark to provide Halloween-themed appetizers, as well as an Octoberfest-type beer for students 21 and over. As a general reminder, Doggett encourages students to participate in the event by dressing up, but asks that “students are being culturally aware and sensitive when they are creating their costumes, as well as aware of what is acceptable attire and what is not.” He also advises that students are “safe and responsible, and respectful towards each other, whether they are in the residence halls or at the All Campus Party.”

The ACP will be held in the Mohr Student Center, beginning at 10:30 PM on Saturday, October 31st.

Haunted Hixon: A Haunting In Time-The Garrick Players are bringing back a haunted house event for students to celebrate Halloween. They’re transforming Hixon Hall into a haunted house for two nights: October 23 and 24, 9:00-11:30pm.

Student performers are setting up the haunted house to a theme of ‘Hixon through the times.’ The basement will have a Victorian theme, the first room will be set to the 1930s-40s, the second to the 1950s-60s, the third to the 1970s, and the last to the present day.

Hixon Hall has been rumored to be haunted, which will add to the hype of the haunted house!

Freaky Deaky: With a lineup consisting of Bassnectar, 2 Chainz, Flying Lotus, TOKiMONSTA, Riff Raff, Pretty Lights, and several other artists, Freaky Deaky is an exciting Halloween event sure to get students pumped.

This three-day Chicago music festival hosted by React occurs yearly, drawing thousands of costumed Halloween- goers to enjoy the music and atmosphere of the event. This year’s Freaky Deaky festival will be held in Toyota Park off of the CTA Orange Line, rain or shine, and will feature a costume contest with a main prize of a four-pack of three- day festival passes and a comped hotel room.

The fast-selling tickets can be purchased online for either a single day or in a three-day bundle. Students looking for more information concerning transportation, location, ticket sales, lineup, and festival policies can review the festival’s online web page at http://freakydeakyhalloween.com.

With such a variety of Halloween events to choose from both on- and off-campus, students should take this opportunity to enjoy the holiday’s festivities and to celebrate the glorious end of midterms.
